Shoots and Ladders

Having spent the last couple of days listening to old Korn albums and being informed that they appeared on Miami Ink I felt like putting together a post that highlights their extensive list of great achievements over the last 15 years or so.

Firstly a little history ...

Hailing from Bakersfield, California, Korn formed in 1993 as an amalgamation of members of other bands who wished to continue making music but under a new name. After recruiting lead singer Jonathan Davis in 1994, the band changed their name from Creep to Korn.

By 1994 they were touring non-stop without the support of radio or video stations but soley relying on their live shows to obtain their reputation. With the help of a dedicated fanbase Korn managed to reach the Billboard 200 in 1996 and receive their first Grammy nomination for ‘Best Metal Performance’ for their song ‘Shoots and Ladders.’

From this point onwards I believe it is safe to say that their popularity came on leaps and bounds and by the late nineties they were most definitely a household name.

Korn’s style has always been very eclectic which is no doubt one of the main reasons why is wasn’t simply the metal listening contingent that embraced their sound through nearly 2 decades of exceptional music making.

Korn have released 8 studio produced albums and in addition various greatest hits albums. They have sold 30 million records worldwide (16.5 million of those in the USA) and being nominated for 6 Grammys, 2 of which they won.

Furthermore Korn have also had significant coverage in none music related areas as well such as various deals with Puma, Adidas, Tribal, Pony and no doubt many more brands on top of that, along with appearances on heaps of worldwide televison shows.

Now for their music ...

I know there have been very mixed reviews to this version of perhaps one of their most famous songs, but I think it´s quite an interesting twist on the original and Amy Lee's voice works rather well with it.

A perseyingle.

Used to promote Tomb Raider; Cradle of Life, but never featured on the official soundtrack.

  9. Firstly a great post, an enjoyable watch and read!!

Personally i feel that Korn really lost their way after there third album 'follow the leader' and there old dirty sound became diluted to cater for the masses. By the time they made fourth album 'issues' i was bored of listening to John Davis still talking about his stepdad molesting him when he was a kid. Sure that would fuck you up but do fans wanna hear 7 albums worth of him crying about it....not me!

Nevertheless an unforgettable band with some absolutely banging tunes.

  16. i used to hate cunts like you when i skated, skateboarding is for everyone, but there was always a group of pricks like you who thought they were superior.
product of an upbringing i guess.

  17. you're just stereotyping pal, its odd because if you skated with dope skaters and punks you should know better than to give that lot a hard time.

nowadays it seems that people cant be satisfied with the things around them, instead they have to intrude on other peoples lives and make them a misery.

you are a fine example of a prick who gives skateboarding a bad name.

what videos did you make it into just so that you can back up your statement.

if you reply dont worry or smething along those lines it will be evident that you are just talking air. No doubt you will respond with the latter.
