I caught up with Rapid recently to discuss the current state of Grime, UK Funky and what hes been up to behind the mixing desk.

Top 3 selected MC's in the grime scene currently and why?

In no particular order,

Wiley, becuase he has the best delivery live and on tracks. He is also one of the most original.

Styrder becuase he writes great songs which have commercial aswell as underground appeal. His choice of beats is always on point aswell as his content.

Ghetto, becuase he can express himself though lyrics which really draws listeners in and he also has great word play and can switch up flows cleverly.

Frisco aswell, becuase he can flow on any type of beat and will sound on point which many MC's cant pull off these days.

I had to include 4 in there, too much talent...



What equipment do you use to produce?

I use a Macbook Pro, Blueberry Microphone, KRK monitors and a 12 channel soundcraft mixing desk.

What are you listening to at the moment?

I'm listening to alot of Dirty Dangerous (Ruff Sqwad), Kerri Hilson, Funky and James Fauntleroy



Whats ruff sqwads plans for 09?

Ruff Swquads plans for 09 are to keep making great music for open minds as well as colaborating with more groups and bands from different genres to gain a different sense of music.

If Bows the spiritual home of Grime, wheres the spiritual home of UK funky?

I think the spiritual home of UK Funky is London in general, theres soo many producers from all over the city that have been contributing to the genre, like Geenius, Apple, Perempay, Fuzzy Logic etc. Its really exploded in the last 2 years.



If you could colaborate with any UK artist who would it be and why?

Well I've worked with Frisco once before, hes an artist that i think would really gel with the type of music I'm trying to put out there. He has alot of style and swag in his lyrics as well as tight content and delivery.

Iceberg. The garms with the characters on them are legendary, aha.

Grime

New developments or old bow three flats?

Old school 3 flats definitely man! They bring back soo many happy memories for me.

I'd rather get a skin head mate, aha.
