The time of year when you've got to start considering knitwear is here. There's no denying it a chunky knit jumper is perfect to keep you warm throughout the winter. Looking around and seeing whats available its apparent that knitwear is still a tough nut to crack for many designers.
Last year the knitwear on the streets was poor to say the least. Most brands would get close then throw it all away at the death by putting on some funky pattern or playing around with the finish. A massive trend for the last couple of years has been those flappy collars on knitwear cardigans and jumpers. Heres two examples...
I've never been a fan of this type of finish, I think Kanye had a hand in making them popular. What happened to those simple knitwear pieces? You can't go wrong with a standard crew neck finish. The best knitwear jumper i've ever purchased was a Shetland Wool Oliver Spencer piece about 5 years ago. To this day i've not seen anything better.
There are brands out there that are getting it (nearly) right. Heres a pick of the ones I know about.
Whiz..
Deluxe...
Bleu de Paname...
Wildcard entry from DistinctlyBritish...
I'm sure there's plenty of brands releasing good knitwear. Is anyone having more luck in finding them than I am?
Gap does nice knitwear. simple crew necks like the last pic. round about november time they release all the chunky knit.
