Fused Forces Interview

Fused Forces are together Adsassin and Moriatti who hail from Romford in Essex.

They have been djing for over 13 years and producing for over 6.

They have had heaps of releases on various labels and numerous appearances on pirate radio stations such as Cyba FM, Sub FM and React FM to name a few.

Now onto the interview and digital photos. I hope that not only those who are dubstep enthusiasts find this an interesting read.

1) Who are some of the other artists that have had significant influence on both your production and djing over the years?

(Moriatti) Well, Drum and Bass was the first underground music we got into, so our first musical influences include Dillinja, Ed rush and Optical, Andy C and Shimon, Roni Size to name a few. Other influences from within the Dubstep Scene include Youngsta, N-Type, Distance, Jakes, Macabre Unit and Skream.
(Adsassin) Yeah major early influences were definitely DnB & hardcore, moving into hip hop as well in my later teens. The artists that have had an influence on me are pretty similar to Dan’s with the inclusion of Dj Premier, RZA, Liam Howlett, Joe Budda, Mr Scruff, ahh the list could go on for ages.

2) What are the tools and programs you are using at the moment to create your tracks?

(Adsassin) The main programs we use are Reason 4 and Logic 7. We have used Reason since we began producing and over the years have stuck with it as it’s the most comfortable platform for us to work with. I personally don’t like getting too technical. Computers and technology can proper do my head in at times. (Moriatti) Logic was originally used in our studio for recording vocals, and occasionally tracks are made within Logic because it has a completely different sound to Reason. Other programs used within the studio include Recycle for loop cutting, and sometimes T-Racks Mastering Suite for mixdowns.

3) Out of all the sets you have played during your career (pirate radio and in clubs) which one would you say stands out the most for you?

(Moriatti) My favourite set we have played by far has to be Stink like Sock in Cambridge at the Junction. It had a banging sound system; a good setup and the 900 strong crowd were proper appreciating the music. Rusko, Benga and Plastician all played a set which made the night even more memorable. Hopefully we will be playing there again either this year or early next year. Big ups to T_! who does a tidy job of putting on a great night! (Adsassin) Definitely Stink like Sock was the one, club wise, so far. Wobble in Southend was always a pleasure to play as well. Also I will never forget the 8 hour back 2 back radio set up at React Fm one Christmas. So many people passed through including; Oneman, Orien, Ikonika, Kudos, BlakstarLine, and bare more, it got proper messy in the studio.

4) You’ve had numerous releases on various labels over the years. What can we expect release wise in the near future?

As planned we have an album of instrumental and vocal tracks due soon on our Scruffy_Hoodlum label compromising of Dubstep and Hip Hop. Also we are currently working with D.J Cable (UK DMC 2008 Champion) to compile a mix cd with various artists from the Dubstep scene. This is also being released on the Scruffy_Hoodlum label. Vinyl wise we have releases due on Pesky Plates, Poizend Audio and our own exclusive artist label Substance Abuse, plus a handful of digital releases too.

5) How beneficial do you think the emergence of thousands of blogs in a relatively short space of time has been for those in the music industry?

(Moriatti) Well, I definitely think it has helped everyone in terms of promotion and advertising. It seems that the internet is the main source for a lot of Labels in the scene. We use blogs to promote our releases, and sometimes when we’re playing out somewhere. Sometimes you see the odd familiar face out and about due to a blog! So it can’t be a bad thing. (Adsassin) Yeah I agree, I think they’re a good thing, if a little overcrowded.

6) What are some of the most positive aspects about growing up and living in Romford?

(Adsassin) The amount of characters and crazy people I’ve met from the ends hahaha, it’s a pretty lively place to live, always something to do an it’s only 10-20 minutes away from London. Music wise, one of the most infamous and well known record shops in the U.K was situated in Romford. “Boogie Times” was like Mecca to both of us. A couple of times a week we would be in there looking at the top ten on the board, waiting in a massive queue to buy one record sometimes!! It was crazy behaviour, but we were addicted from the start! It’s a real shame that “Boogie Times” closed down several years ago, as it was our only real local source of underground records. It was also handy for buying tickets for events. Now we’re forced into central London to buy our vinyl. Back in the day, Romford also had Drum and Bass events scattered about, Secrets, RM1 and Cellar Bar were the best well known places for it. (Moriatti) Yea RM1 Club held both Drum and Bass and Garage events. I also played my first ever event there at the age of about 16. I was shitting a brick, but the crowd enjoyed my set, which gave me the motivation to push myself musically. Sadly Romford has a strict music policy these days, and doesn’t welcome much underground music. Pacific Edge near the market is the only place now to find the odd Drum and Bass /Dubstep event happening these days.

7) When it comes to trainers, what have always been your favourite pairs and why?

(Moriatti) Personally I’m busting some Nike Windrunners at the moment. I’m a one pair of trainer guy! Ads large on his trainers though ain’t ya? (Adsassin) Yea man I love ‘em, favourite pair id have to say is Hi Top Air Force 1’s because I’ve always got a pair in my collection, I do have a soft spot for Reebok Pumps too, and at the moment I’m rocking a pair of grey Reebok Alife’s with a blue gum sole. Big up our mate Shawn on the heads up on them!
