Release the Groove x DJ Premier & NYGz.

I got the call from a very excited Shan, telling of an oppurtunity to meet the one and only Primo from Gangstarr at Leicester Square.. I couldn't pass it up. So we formed, originally at the wrong Burger King, but still making good time we re-situated ourselves to Picadily Circus... assembling a posse of people on our way. We got to 'Release the Groove' and the guys instore said we had to wait outside for Primo, they were playing drum and bass so that request was nothing big. We must have waited outside for an hour and a bit... but the themed conversation made it seem like a ten minute stint. Certain mans tried to compile a top 5 of Primo's beats, needless to say they failed. Excitement levels were high.

Downstairs in the record shop. I would guesstimate that around 50 people turned up, which is shockingly low, but anymore people and signature and photo oppurtunities would have been thin on the ground.

All of us then headed to Bar Rhumba... Making sure we were there before 9pm, as that was the freeness cut off point.. or so we thought, arrive at the door to learn there is no free entry, we then notice a hastily assembled sign that reads Dirty Canvas w/ DJ Premier £5.. and all is clear.. the masses contemplate if its worth the fiver, and then there was 3! We get inside and it's a nice location... Sit down and the DJ, whos name I'm unaware of, played some classics that got us thinking £5 was merited. More heads and familiar faces arrive and all is looking well..we go to the main-stage and wait patiently for the arrival of Primo. Smasher comes on and plays one track and then the remix of the same track 'Back In The Day', the crowd gets 50% hype and then retracts...we endure some terrible rap orientated music for about 30 minutes, and then Primo is before us once more. He introduces NYGz and they do a couple tracks off the new album... then Primo starts dropping Gangstarr tracks and 2 tracks later... STOPS.. he talks for a few and then leaves.. appauled is not the word.. we swiftly head for the exit feeling ripped off.. one thing, how the fuck are you gonna follow up 'Mass Appeal' with Akon ft/ Eminem!?!?! That can't run. Anyway... for a proper Primo set, make sure you're at BBE @ Canvas on December 1st, it's going to be momentous.

Some pictures to finish on;
