Allegedly, last Monday the staff at Maharishi were informed that the company was going into administration and they should look for a new job.
Launched by (creative director) Hardy Blechman in 1994. Maharishi is one of the most if not the most remowned UK streetwear brand. And has gone onto successfully establishing itself in the international market.
There is talk of a takeover but nothing concrete has been agreed as of yet.
I personally hope something can be sorted so we dont want to lose another legendary store.
One of the nicest store layouts on the planet...
BNTL wish the company and all the staff the best for the future.
Rumours are still flying around regarding the 'Emporium', some good news could be just around the corner for people still missing certain stores in London.

I wish all the best for the staff at Maharishi.
As you say Ollie it could be another potential demise of very important UK streetwear store.
A very sad day for the UK and London scene.
DPMHI is by far my favourite store because there is just so much time and effort taken into making it look great.
I wish Maharishi and MHI all the best!
JD Sports is the talk of the town, MHI coming to a shopping centre near you.
I don't know, I think JD could still back it and maintain its credibility.. though its unlikely.
Still in talks with JD but i hear they are only looking at MHI, Maharishi is still up for grabs.
JD own the rights for Foot Patrol and have promised to keep that brand just the way it was. Its not a case of JD buying brands and sticking their garments in stores from Grimsby to Southend.
None of these are facts just rumours. If anyone has got raw facts we'd like to hear them.
Not suprising for a company with an owner who drinks his own piss and encourages his employees to do the same.
Man thats some sad news, i love that store. Will there be a sale to get rid of stock? When will they officially close?
I wish them all luck in the future
WOAH.. it was closed when i went there last friday but didnt think much of it..
:(
AT LAST!
Some good news.
Long had its day.
R.I.P 'Street'wear.
this recession business is fucked up, but you have to look at it objectively, the cold weather might be killing off all the old folks but lowered costs across industries is the perfect opening for a new generation to come through, re-build and prosper...
:l wooooooow I heard about this some time ago still but never thought to much of it . . .
Sad times boy and
WTF jd hold the rights to the name foot-patrol since when that means gimmie5 won't be doing a thing under foot-patrol ?
And does that mean jd are gonna do something with it in the future ? (wouldn't be to impressed if that was the case)
Lego its not fact but this it was ive heard from a very good source.
"A very sad day for the UK and London scene."
Terminology like that and the treatings of a non-existant all high 'thing', the "Scene" is stupid.
The scene is fucking dumb, its ridiculous, its created by big companies to ensure you spend you little moneys. The scene does not like you, why do you love the scene?
^^^ errrgh you cret. a scene is where ever your at. and were here.
you speng. people spend accordingly you toss bag
"The scene is created by big companies to ensure you spend your little money"
Were you drunk when you wrote that ? ? ?
no, you hold to dearly to some shitty imaginary thing.
Just be happy with a friendhsip group, theres no need for some false extended affiliates "scene".
Its cringeworthy
rumour has it that, as Ollie said, MHI are being taken over by JD Sports and that the MHI store is going to be transformed too.
Foot Patrol and MHI are apparently set to stay and have a floor each plus I've heard that Stussy may occupy a floor too. Thats all that I've heard at the moment.
Anon stop being such a sad little fassy.
CRINGEWORTHY
indeed.
"Foot Patrol and MHI are apparently set to stay and have a floor each plus I've heard that Stussy may occupy a floor too."
Jesus H Christ.
Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep :(
Footpatrols gone now MHI! liberty damn u Gordon Brown
TOYS
store was SHIT.
dont lie to the people.
MHI hasn't been relevant for a good decaded.
no-one gives a shit about it. thats why it died.
i'm happy about it tbh.
exactly.
10 years late.
oh yeah, most of you lot was still in primary school then.
Damn you man get some dedicated haters for real lol!!. Thats when you know you've made it though.
MHI died cuz the staff were such fruitcakez, bare waste cadet staff who wernt o.g. status enuf to work in da shop, people who hideout/stussy/fp would NEVER have taken.
couple peng tingz do, chicks not manz, im not on nah batty ting king
it was only a matter of time before another london spot fell
listen to mr old school up there. bruv i was banging mhi in primary school, you were rocking adams.
i heard about the footpatrol rumour from one of the hideout guys aswell, london streetwear has become shitty
we can all start shopping in h&m its nt a ting
This is sad news but I'm with AC.
We should root for the up and comers like ALL CAPS, AINT, Trapstar, TMP to set up their own spots when all the smoke clears.
Like my boy said today, sad but out with the old in with the new...Sometimes us Brits like to hold onto the old establishment a bit too long therefore hindering the emergence of new and fresh faces.
Roc,i agree with u to a certaun degree,it's time for new uk brands to come up.
But first remember you need reference points which i think the younger generation like yourself lack, without these shop/brands there would not be any "streetwear"
brands like a.i.n.t were riding with mhi(investor) incase you are not aware, trapstar were doing their bbc/bape thing already but fucked up by being linked with yoyo's and all that jeckle rope chain wear. If all you care about is being a "face" then you are in it for the wrong reasons, without these shops/brands you would still be wearing g unit jeans and fubu remember that.
For anyone intested in hte facts, Maharshi has indeed appointed administrators - you can see in this PDF: www.london-gazette.co.uk/documents/13thFeb09
maharishi mainline lives on, a small amount of stores (as few as 5 selected stores will carry it)
Just checked Edward's link on to Companies House. A new company called Maharishi (London) was formed maybe to smooth the close down or hopefully something new.
Has anyone seen either of the shops open? I couldn't get through on the phone on Wednesday.
I wrote a cheeky email to the receiver offering to buy the closed emaharishi domain name but maybe it's not worth their time replying to small offers.
If anyone wants a Maharishi Camouflage Exhibition style boot, which the shop never sold, you can grab a pair cheaply above. Maybe it's the price of Maharishi clothes that doesn't work in a recession, while the style still works. Hope Maharishi Mainline lives on as someone says above, even though it's above my price range.
Maharishi was formed in 1994, so nearly 15 years of selling top flight products in the faddy streetware market is impressive. Remember their products have never been cheap; I bought my first pair of combats from there 10 yrs ago for £160; people aren't willing to pay these kind of prices in the current market. Over the last couple of years the Covent Garden store has been quiet and the MHI store which is clearly of genre leading design, never really took off to my mind. Whilst the rumors are that JD are interested in MHI, bear in mind they have yet to re-launch Foot Patrol and are unlikely to do so in these hard times. Don't write Maharishi off just yet however, they have filed before and survived. They have a big following in the Far East and Blenchman is well connected, so I'd suggest he may get backing from that part of the world and retain independence from a brand such as JD which may lower credibility. Whatever happens the brand does need to re-invent itself and I don't think it has the cult following it did back in the 90s; the people who bought the brand back then are well into their 30s and I don't see the younger generation finding the brand or streetware in general as appealing. Not all doom and gloom though, the market needs a shake up and it's a good opportunity for new talent to come through.
My dj devistate back in 88
Ah yeah!

seem to have the spring summer 09 in,
i was just at the brighton store and the detatchable hooded sweat was tasty indeed.
Looks like they aint down and out after all!
why did footpatrol sell to JD? what incentive would MHI have for selling to them? what is going on for fuuck sakes? do the people who run tings at JD think they gonna raise fire for throwing a some loose corporate change at some independents?
Otherwise, i would love if anon1 would show his lickle face
www.maharishistore.com
I was gutted to see them go under and then very happy to see maharishistore.com come up.
Unfortunately now I remember their weaknesses. Bad sizing (the t-shirt I got is an unwearably skinny fit. And their piss poor online customer service. I've sent about 6 emails over the last two weeks to ask for a returns number (easy).
I'd wait until they have an actual store or, god forbid, a phone number before you order anything.
whats news?
