Kickers OJB Kick-Hi

Not really on trend but that's half the attraction, who wants to hear about which colour Dr Martin Alice Dellal, Daisy Lowe or Agnyess Deyn are currently opting for....errr not me.

'Rinsing' isn't the word for what Dr Martins are doing to their collections at the moment. Have you peeped there latest drop? A good indication of a brand running out of ideas is when they start drawing for the colours. They'll take their most popular shape and just flip it out in every colour in the rainbow. This isn't a hate post...Dr Martins are an epic shoe, they have stood the test of time and have been key to some of the best looks in recent history. Take the 'skinhead' movement for example.

My boy was on point the other day he was like 'I really want a pair of Dr Martins but I want an old battered pair, these new ones are just offensive.'

A shoe I find to be far from offensive is the Kickers OJB (Original Jean Boot) Kick-Hi.

Most of us were first introduced to these when we were starting school or even more specific when we were learning our left and right. Do you remember the green and red dots on the sole? Green indicated your left foot and red your right...genius. Remember collecting the leather swing tags? I think I only had 3 max and I swear a couple of them were from some swag models.

The OJB shoe was designed in 1970 by French cobbler Daniel Raufest, his reason being was that he wanted a shoe to compliment your flares and finish off that 'flower power' look perfectly. The shoe saw immediate success and became a global favourite.

Back in our manor in the late 70's the shoe was taken on by the 'Casuals' in the north of the country. If you weren't wearing your Forest Hills or Diadora's on match day you were wearing your Kicker OJB's. Great for laying boot to your oppositions heads from all accounts.

In 2007 Kickers was bought and the OJB was relaunched.

The last couple of years have seen some amazing new colour ways and other variations. They had a bit of a hiccup when they gave Henry Holland a shoe to design but I don't think many people took notice so its all good...

My favourite had to have been the Kickers FAC51 Hacienda. Inspired by the Hacienda club in Manchester where the OJB was the shoe of choice when the 'No trainers' rule kicked in...

True classic.

Started life as the OJB but are now the Kick Hi.

I think they can be rocked by anyone, pretty simple shape and the variety of colours make them and everybody shoe.

I think they're for children... just like pimsoils(?)

Dr M's are for the working class, it's not supposed to be fasionable it's just easier to work with... well from the 1900-1970s.

I can understand why the 90's punk kids would wear them, but emo's or scene folks? Come off it mate.

Stop taking things then rinsin' it so that you can look like fucking daisy lowe or something.

Geez! I'm not judgeing your post Ollie, about time someone brought it up.

Nicely writern though.

if D'ms are just for the working class, and not for fashion...wouldnt that be the case with most pieces of clothing or shoes?

Dickies are work wear, but people still wear them as a fashionable piece of clothing? carhartt was originally work wear, Red wing boots were orignially made for war? but now people rock them with jeans.

Isaac, you dont make sense.

Yeh we know they helped people...But is that the point you are getting across? I am confused with what your actually proving...or even just stating?

Everything you just said ^^^, believe it or not, im pretty sure everyone already knows. Thats the case with every bit of historic clothing, my old man says all stars cost under a fiva in his day...now u cant get a pair for under 35/40 quid.

so many elements of fashion start off from ripping off an aesthetic that the 'working class' has rocked for ages. that's just how fashion works. what's different about wearing them now than in the 90s? sure twats like daisy lowe ruin it for all of us but i think you're romanticising it a bit too much. it's just a sad fact that all fads or fashions are going to have origins in something or someone and those origins don't get acknowledged because the fashionable item gets detached from whatever cultural significance it had before. and of course DMs were cheaper, but you're just being nostalgic. with inflation of course it's more expensive now - also of course things become more expensive once they become fashionable. just look at palestinian scarves sold in urban outfitters...plimsolls sold in office for 20 quid

basically what you said can be applied to the cyclical nature of ALL fashion

oh and that was aimed at 'isaac'

Denim jeans were once only worn by workers in farms on America.
