Really interesting show on at the Londonewcastle space at the moment. The show sets out to showcase the changing scenary of East London. The area has been a hotspot for migrants for the best part of 50 years. The attraction of cheap rent isn't a new thing it's been a macca for many demographics and still is.
For me East London is great because of its diversity, its a melting pot of so many varied cultures.
The past few years has seen a bit of a backlash on the new inhabitants of East London but again this is nothing new. People like myself have been moving here for the music, the fashion and the lifestyle since the early 80's...
The guys who have put this on have delved deep into their archives and contacts book. A lot of the stories and images (this is before digital) you can relate to because you may now drink in the pub which was once a crack den, you now work in a coffee shop which was once a mosque or you can see Kylie Minogue sitting in the same seat you were sitting in on Friday night.
Not sure how long its up for so head down before its gone.
