Workwear from Carhartt and Dickies

When you say these words I used to think of tacky uniforms at fast food chains or more specifically the burgundy of the Mcdonalds uniform.

Workwear is a global necessity and is growing in popularity within the circles of the fashion conscious.

Originally made for men working manual labour jobs that need durable uniform that will be comfortable and supportive.

Brands like Carhartt and Dickies are probably the most popular and have managed the crossover to everyday wear relatively smooth. They continue to supply many businesses worldwide with workwear and they are still churning out the same silhouettes they were doing in the early 90’s. This isn’t a bad thing by any means, for a brand to stay true to its ethos while crossing into the fashion sector and still not getting caught up in the rapid change of trends of today is an amazing feet.

Take their key pieces…Carhartt have the legendary 12oz denim, the cut is very clean and the denim is great for the price you pay (rrp £55). Carhartt was and still is a staple brand for hip hop artists such as the Wu-Tang Clan, Joel Ortiz and Nas.

Dickies have a monopoly on uniform supply in the US, the chinos come in every colour in the rainbow and these bad boys actually clean themselves. (A fact my friends didn’t believe until they seen with their own eyes). Again like Carhartt being able to move from just supplying workwear to now supplying fashion conscious indivduals worldwide is a great achievement. What else is also great is their marketing campaigns, again they keep it simple and don’t get carried away with hype and special effects.

The Dickies onslaught on the European Market has started. Street photographer Ricky Powell has got some great images of Dickies on the street. Check out the site here

dickies

Genres aren’t excluding Dickies’ trousers either whether your rocking emo, gothic, skater or fashionista....we all love them.

I’m personally loving the Workwear look right now and an added bonus is the fact that this gear is definitely made to last. Lets phase out the Skinny Jean, i know its a tall order but surely its about time us men started dressing like real men.

Out in American Dickies is standard uniform. Shit is dirt cheap in places like Dr jays and whatnot

I got into Dickies through listening to Deftones. And that was 10 or more years ago, Natterjacks used to stock all that shit, Dickies, Ben Davis etc

I'm a long term fan of American workwear but outside of American workwear shops Cahartt is now a fashion brand - where can you buy a pair of Carhartt double knee riveted work jeans in the UK?

My personal favourite US workwear brand these days is Ben Davis.

Haha i know what your saying Tan, i was greeted by the UPS man a few years ago in a pair of dickies. Strong look! P.s Natterjacks are doing a lot for Kingston, big store.

Many of us have been rocking Dickies since day but im seeing a fair few blatent newbies around.

Both are timeless brands in my opinion which is why i thought id pay some homage.

Hi,

Nice Pics, the one with your car, I love it. hey thanks for all the information. Do you think their should be something called dress code in the place we work. I do not like it. I think we should have the freedom to wear any kind of out fit that we like.
