Hypes label was in town but it's a shame Hype couldn't make it!
Did it matter? No, an absolutely huge night at Med Bar Friday where the Playaz crew descended on Birmingham to showcase the unique Playaz sound.
Samas kicked things off with a deep rolling set drawing for many a Hospital tune and dropping Chase n Status - Take me away which really got the early crowd going.
Vytol stepped up next with his normal selection of "wobble" he had to dance floor bubbling ready for the headliners... Fresh tunes a plenty, Vytol responding to the crowd well reloading at least 4-5 disgusting tunes.
Twelve o'clock came and up stepped Pascal, I had never seen Pascal play before and has only previously heard a set from him once a few years back so I wasn't sure what to expect. The first thing Pascal did when he got his hands on the mixer was whack the sound and bass right up. The med bar system was pushed to its limits and the bass caused a sea of screw facing ravers to erupt into action. Moving through many of the Playaz top tunes of the minute and drawing for a Hazard - Cowards Beware remix, he proceeded to smash his way through the 60 minutes. Big big big set from Pascal!
Generation Dub were on call next coming with their original sound the set was full of new dubplates and serious wobble. It all got a bit much for me, spent a bit of time chilling outside and headed in to catch the last 20 minutes or so... Big set but not on the same level as Pascal.
With Hype not showing, Birmingham's own DJ Escape filled in, the Music Hertz specialist certainly hurt the dancefloor with support from MC Biggie and Fearless, Escape took the levels up and up. No questions were asked about Hype's disappearance only questions of how sick was Escapes set?
With deck problems outside Phase 2 and DJ D moved into the Med Bar for a switch up of old skool drum n bass, rolling out some real classics they held the jump up thirsty crowd. Personally not much of an old skool head but I still enjoyed the set...
Hazards turn was next, with huge expectations from me and many of the people on the dancefloor he didn't disappoint. 60 minutes of stomach turning, vomit inducing drum n bass. It really was disgusting. So many new tunes pushing the boundaries of Drum n Bass, Hazard should really be crowned the king of jump up drum n bass. Sorry there are no pictures for this set.. I was skanking way too much!
Last but not least was 1xtra's Bailey, after smashing it last time he played at med bar he was also carrying the expectations of a storming set. Mixing from old to new and new to old Bailey's across the board and versatility shone through. Dropped my personal favourite Logistics - Together he earned extra brownie points.
Massive night from Fixed, it now seems to have established it's name as a night to deliver quality across the board line ups to rival any other promotion in Birmingham.
Shouts to Adam, Mikey J, Bissel, Xtra C, Phase 2, Escape, Trackin (drunken mess), and the dnba crew.
Few crowd shots and randoms...
Scratch n Sniff, Old skool outside
Plenty more..
