So with nothing better to do I hopped on a train to CV1. Met emma, ollie and greg in browns and chilled till about 12, when it was closing time we were looking for an alternative venue... it was the choice of "the campbel" - a shit little rocky/indie student pub or "the colly" a club which has recently recieved a £1 million face-lift, so obviously this seemed the better option, with the promise of drum n bass I thought bingo! this is place to be in coventry (no I didnt mean to rhyme then). So after walking to the colly via the campbell to the sweaty over crowdy student mess and a breif stop in "dogma" a crappy upstairs bar for the so-called cool people in cov... we arrive at the colly and its sparsely populated but free lolly pops were an incentive to get people through the door. As I walked in I could hear Pendulum - Slam and shudders went down my spine hoping it wasnt gonna be
that kind of drum n bass... and to my surprise there was no drum n bass, emma's friends weren't playing that night so we had to put up with rubbish, although props for the room 2 dj dropping nas - get down.
We ventured into room 2 to hear phil collins - in the air tonight, big tune and the people of coventry certainly appreciate phil, certain people getting their "gun fingers" out and toting their hand pistols to the tune. Oh dear. So after stood there appauled at what I was seeing the DJ decided to play some drum n bass, his choice was marky - we like it, i had to have a little skank to this classic, then a jaw droppingly AWFUL mix into zinc - ready or not and what seemed to be an attempt at a double drop with shy fx - chopper which was comical... but as the dj saw the dance floor emptied he drew for big tunes... fat boy slim. at which point we left.
Jokes night but awful venues. To think they spent £1 million on that club is a disgrace!

i know exactly what you mean when you say that you hope you don't walk into a club and they're playing a pendulum variant of drum'n'bass.
i walked into the valve 1xtra night in ministry earlier this year (was it? fuck knows) and when i got into the main room i literally turned around and walked back. i thought it was the hard house/trance/shitbag room. i asked someone where the main d'n'b room and they pointed me back in the direction i'd come from. i only believed it when i saw the valve speakers.
