An issue dedicated to the graffiti artist Kaws. Probaly most known for his collaboration with Japanese brand A Bathing Ape and his own clothing line Original Fake.

With plenty of interviews with influencual figures in the world of music and fashion and pages scrawled on by Kaws, adding cheeky details here and there. This issue is a whirlwind of colour and excitement.

I think crazy is a bit too much, I prefer viewing things from a different angle. Need to go pick this issue up as soon as I'm cleared fit by the doctors fuck ear infections.

i beat both you boys to this one.

special edition is looking kinda nice though...

the target audience has been a gradual change, but i cant hate them for it. ID is still on point for so many reasons....

stated partially on the evidence of this issue.

that said, the next factor, the true underground aspect that id promotes hasn't gone anywhere.

woman
i agree id is still "slyly" on point.

but for me personally its hard to find "the underground aspect which id promotes" in this issue

usher, lil wayne, nigo, pharrel, nike concepts oh and kanye west . . . iv seen more "underground" in carol vodermon
flipping them numbers on countdown ! ! ! !

I need to get a copy of this shit. How much is the subscription monthly to this?

Haha, for real Lego. There's no underground aspect about it.

yup, this issue certainly isnt underground by any means... but im not complaining because its a big issue and im happy ID dont limit the magazine to the GENERAL perceptions it carries....

Damn lego i thought it was just me who was thinking ID was changing its content (like when you dont get a joke but you laugh along anyway). I still love ID for its iconic layout but iv been left dissapointed for about 4 consecutive issues now.

Whats the target audience now then?

I think the change in i-D's content probably just reflects the fact that it is virtually impossible for print media nowadays to stay on top of 'underground' movements and write about them before they're blasted all over the net via Blogs/Youtube.

Time-wise, how can magazines that prepare their content 2/3 months in advance possibly hope to compete with technological media that can be published in seconds? I think considering how many magazines have folded/gone massively downhill over the last few years, i-D still does a pretty good job of staying ahead...The new, conceptual issues (Agyness Deyn, this Kaws issue) may not be for everyone but at least they're something different, right?

pheobe is on point.

(no dickride)

@OllieDanger said...

Haha Pheobe you are on point as Witts has stated.

Especially reagrding other magazines....they've lead the way since the demise of 'The Face'. il no doubt keep buying my copy each month.

God help anyone starting a mag. It looks hard for new mags to have individuality.

Totally agreement with t'other Phoebe.
Print is sadly, a dying media and i-D are holding on as strong as they can with a rainbowed coloured smile on they face!

Some people rate Antenna, but the couple editions I've read haven't been that appealing, same with Complex.. but as phoebe said, it's difficult for printed media to keep up with the blogs etc online.

Antenna's cool, its what complex set out to be.

But now that Elliot Wilson's protege took over as the editor of Complex, it has just become an XXL lite.

Bland boring and WAAAAY too much hip hop than usual.

Needless to say I haven't re newed my subscription that ran out last summer.

Antenna is a really good read. It manages to incorperate streetwear, day to day fashion, food, drinks, confectionary and lifestyle shit.

I really enjoyed reading the peice about coca cola in the last but one edition. In the current one, the peice about the old "cell phones" is dope, i'm not sure if its the same guy but the descriptive writing is amazing!

I'll blog it up over the weekend (i've been meaning to anyway)
