Word, these line-ups are always the same damn thing churned out over and over again.

Long for some freshness!

"Serious" is obviously a word thrown about loosely these days...

Let me break this lineup down -

Donaeo - Only booked becuase of the buzz he has created around his arfican warrior/devil in a blue dress funky tunes. A prime example how styleslut jump on bangwagons, Donaeo has been doing his thing for yonks in grime, RnB etc and im sure styleslut have never given him a second look untill now due to the fact funky is now 'trendy' and a bit edgey cus its urban

Tempa T - Booked at every sceney night that wants some kind of grime edge. Only has pullup bars and stylesluts booking of temmpz shows their ignorance of grime and whats good at the moment. Again jumping in bangwagons and trying to give their night some sort of Urban and grimey appeal without doing it properly.

Tomb crew - A dj act booked by every night of the same calibre - chockablock/styleslut/etc. Their mixes tend to be relatively good but as they are not genuinely ungrossed into any of the music genres they play, due to the fact they jump on whats blown up in the last month or had some sort of trendy rebirth (e.g. bassline/funky/uk g) their limit themselves to the same set every booking.

Acyde - Has yet to learn how to beat match. Cannot DJ, and thus has to use techniques of bringing records in one tends to use when they are in the learning stages.

Ordio kid - A bad scene grime DJ, there are plenty of equivilents out there that would have costed the same amount but have been doing their thing for years in genuine grime enviroments aka pirate radios etc and have some sort of credit due in their genre. Shows ignorance of styleslut. If they knew anything about the music they were dealing with someone like tootsie/spyro/mak 10 (assuming he dosnt only play funky now)would replace him.

Tick choong ting - prime example of how people assume you can just become a DJ, with the invention of CDJ's and the like. Same old story of someone with status grown from another field trying to eat of the DJ.

Sorry for the length. Just had to break that one down once and for all.

However if this night dosnt mascaraed as some sort of serious musical affair or something that strives to bring the best of the musical genres it pushes of show case new music, the lineup is fine. Its repetitive as it mirrors every other night of the same breed but i suppose if the punters like DJs who cant beatmatch but have some sort of social status, its all good.

Stop booking dozens and dozens of acts for one night. Instead use the money to get three or four much better acts that people aren't so tiered of seeing and hearing!

Alright anonymous - why dont you start your own blog instead of trying to display your critical analysis skills on here?

Just a couple of, er, observations...
Tomb Crew - have you actually bothered to look at their set listings? Or seen them at somewhere like Fabric or Barry where they tear down the rave? And also, if they jump on everything new, how is it possible that they churn out the same sets? Surely they'll always be different? No? Think before you let those paws type the words.

Ordio Kid - last time I checked he was mainly an old school garage DJ, and Urban Nerds resident. Not sure if you're aware of them but they are currently resident hosts at Fabric, and are hosting the DMC London Finals party at the O2, as well as packing out every party they hold at 93. Someone say big tings?

So, in conclusion, step back a little bit, breathe, research and come back correct.

Peas.

Yes, Fabric do put out some very good line-ups week after week.
But they also do have a habit of jumping on the latest bait offerings as well.

Also I am very aware of Urban Nerd and what they are doing is very praise worthy. However like chock-a-block their line-ups are often cram packed with your usual acts that we are tiered of.

I am glad that they are co-hosting the DMC finals as that event was crying out for a breath of fresh air.
However Killa Kela headlining the Sunday night for the umpteenth year in a row!
It was better when they were booking acts like the X-ecutioners a few years back.

But really please don't attempt the patronising route with me buddy as I think you'll find I am aware of these nights and acts and have seen /attended them as many if not more times than you have. But now I am at a point where I know they won't improve so this is why I am voicing my opinion.

Like it or lump it.
However I am sure you can't disagree with some of the points I have made?!

Of course I agree with some of your points...I've been tired of Shoreditch/the scene/people trying wayyy too hard to be 'cool' for a very, very long time.

Again though, a few things...
Firstly, I co-run Chockablock with JP...cuss away, but we do our thing, people come, we've been going for quite a while now, so happy days...
Secondly, saying Urban Nerds have jam packed line ups that we're tired off..erm..Congo Natty...Skinnyman...Goldie...Taskforce...not your everyday run of the mill Whoreditch acts if you ask me...
Thirdly, "Fabric has a habit of jumping on the lastest bait offerings"...this is one of the most famous clubs in Europe...surely a certain level of 'baitness' is required. Giving people what they want, no? If it stayed competely and utterly underground it wouldn't be where it was today...I think it provides everything in perfectly equal portions.

As I said, I take (some of) your points, but in general you seem to be a tad uneccessarily angsty, and on top of that, an extremely fussy raver...!

Rant boy: Don't be hating on tomb crew. They're booked time and time again, because their good at what they do and they give the crowd what they want. Simple as.

ChockABlock has never jumped on any bandwagon you wasteman.

to :guy who just had a rant.

what nights do u go to that are so much better than the nights with the line ups you describe, let us all know so we can go.

chill out man. its all just meant to be fun. stop watching what is the most exclusive and unheard of.

bun anonymous comments- are you ashamed of your opinion, why bother to write it out then.

bun people that think they are too sick to have fun

bun people that take this whole scene too seriously

bun people that watch what is happening and who is jumping on what bandwagon with eagle eyes.

just have fun and stop whinging. duck if you dont like it

bored of this

Rant was a bit long but I KIND OF get what he was saying. I know the raves are kind of 'trendy' or whatever but every now and again I like going to them because they play music I like to hear that won't get played at other clubs cause they ain't mainstream enough. HOWEVER they always seem to fuck up with 10 kagillion people performing, usually drunk, and messing with my high I just wanna DANCE good grief. Every urban nerd i've been to I think has been a bit crappy but then some people I talked to lurved it so whatever. If I could request one thang, less "up and coming artists" more DJ time thanks.

Anonymous said...

Yes yes JP!

Anonymous, where've you got to bruv??

At the end of the day, I think that this has proved that you can't please everyone all of the time...
...But what I think isn't helpful is the constant negativity against a largely struggling UK 'urban' scene.
If Styleslut book Tempz, then that's one more roadman than would have been booked 5 or so years ago.
Bandwagons or no, let them get theirs!

As a general rule, these nights are not creative, not centered around music and provide repetitive lineups.
My opinions, dosnt have to be yours

Wow everyone needs to chill out a bit here, go to Mindie it's cheesy and wicked I go to every one, and it's not scene if thats what you wanna avoid.

They are all promoting/djing or whatever, all trying to get a rep, it's all love.

Then stop complaining about uncreative clubs and go rave.

Ha ha, basically I think someone is pissed because they don't booked for raves.

If you don't like it, don't go. Simple.

And stop wasting your time being bitter about it because the line up ain't "road" enough.

So let me break it down:

Donaeo - Why would they wanna book any man with no hype if they actaully wanna make money from the night and get people to turn up? They woudln't, so booking him is clever.

Tempa T - Only has pull up bars. Probably a good thing if you wanna get hype in a rave???? And to be fair, he ain't great, but who else is good in a rave that's not gonna cost the earth?

Tomb Crew - Never seen the same set from them twice since they mash it all genres wide. Good dj's that know how to make people dance. "Ungrossed"? Is that even a word? Which is also wrong of you to say if you listened to their radio show. They go deep there and save the party bangers for the raves where it matters.

Acyde - Can't comment as I don't know him/her/them.

Ordio Kid - Cost the same as Spyro and Mak 10???? Jog on you nipple. Plus Sypro plays most Chockablocks anyway. Just because the dude gets a gig but hasn't been on Rinse for years doesn't mean you should hate on him for playing what he likes and getting shows.

Tick Chhong Ting - See Aycde for comment.

Basically it sounds like you go to all of these nights anyway. So you spent your cash on these nights, and you go and still complain. So who's the sucker??
