TEMPA060 SP:MC & LX ONE HUNTED/ OH MY GOSH Review

After lurking about on dub plate for months both 'Hunted' by SP:MC & LX ONE and 'Oh My Gosh' by SP:MC are out on Tempa and we've got our hands on them for a review.

We sent the release over to Ashley Oglina, for his opinion on yet another outstanding Tempa record..

In a scene that seems to be saturated by farcical bastardisations of the once celebrated dubstep sound, it’s always a pleasure to hear something that sticks to the original blueprint of dark, weighty moodiness, and stalwart dubstep label Tempa delivers exactly that with their latest release from SP:MC and LX ONE.

‘Hunted’ is a lesson in herculean halfstep power, as razor sharp bass stabs and slap-to-the-face snares puncture the tides of sweeping sub. It’s a nod to the menacing dread vibes of yesteryear as much as it fits the modern day dubstep template that Youngsta champions so expertly.

The flip, ‘Oh My Gosh’ (a solo effort from SP this time) seems less heavyweight but still brings bludgeoning sub bass uppercuts and layers them over lurching halfstep drums and snarling midrange crackles for a sonic journey into the spatial abyss.

Both tracks are a real testament to the pair’s production quality, as their crisp percussion, pneumatic sub bass moodiness and purposeful midrange use are as high grade as you’ll hear all year.
