This picture was taken 5 hours (i think) before Lennons death by Annie Leibovitz who was the in house photographer at rolling stone and after at vanity fair.
Its meant to be the most intimate picture of Lenon supposedly exposes his vulnerability. It reveals a prominent aspect of arguably the 20th centuries biggest icon's personality and that for me makes it iconic.

I think definitely the composition teamed with the resonance of WHEN it was taken and whom by makes the image iconic but I think there are images that percievably are more iconic to a wider audience, perhaps?
I don't think anyone's trying to give you beef - It's beautiful.

i had to look at this picture a few times to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me.

but each time i came to the same conclusion.

definitely iconic.

lennon curled up like a baby, looking 'ready to die'....

it may not be the most pretty sight but its thought provoking too say the least.

big post!
