With door tax only £5 this event was always on the hit list, got to med bar at 11 and chilled outside for a while. I don’t have a clue who played 11-12 (apparently some Birmingham uni student) but they were fucking awful, terrible mixing and strange selection.
Chatting to a drunken DJ Opiate he informed me he was playing at 12, a good thing meaning the tunes were going to pick up, but worrying because he was evidently wasted!
12 o'clock was upon us and Courtney (Opiate) graced the decks, forgetting the name of the tune but some old skool Dillinja ripped through the system in the kitchen which was sounding amazing! a consistent techy hour proceeded us surprisingly with no clanging (considering how fucked he was before he stepped up) finishing with Break - The drone, quite predictable but still a massive tune.
Sabre stepped up next and instantly brought the dance floor to its knees. Dubplates galore and a consistent deep bassline. Skanked all the way through this set, again Sabre pulled out some old skool Dillinja and some Logistics. The mixing was big and the bass was bigger, 10/10 for Sabre!
Escape rolled up at 2 and didn’t really adhere to the rules of techy drum n bass. The expected jump up mayhem set the roof on fire, dropping some of Hazards new tunes and his usual selection, he did drop a few techy tunes but no one seemed to mind as they bounced around like idots! (myself included)
Crowd shots:
Had a brief chat with Sabre outside, hope to speak to him about an interview sometime soon cause he's known for his interest in street wear.. Just has to wait and see if he contacts me.
Reluctantly left around 2.30 back to Toms for some chillin. I would have been more than happy to have stayed at med bar!!
