It's the 5th of Dilla February: the mission to create a nation of tubby Dilla disciples is on-going. Cuddle up to coronary diseases- let them into your heart.
Day 5, Song 5:
Poe - Fingertips (Drum Programming by Jay Dee)
Today's spherical ring of tongue and tonsil tickling tastiness is certainly an obscure cut many will not be previously acquainted with (what- did some of you assume I'd only upload familiar family favourites from Fantastic Vol. 2 for this blog epic? Dig deeper to prevent Dilla culture vultures from cattin' thy steez!).
Poe is a little-known American female singer/songwriter who in 1995 recorded an LP entitled Hello that blended old soul/blues breaks chopped & infused with electronically composed elements to create a sound regarded as innovative for it's time; though it failed commercially due to poor (scumbag) record label promotion, hence why none of us have ever heard of it. If only the poor cow had had a MySpace...
I'm very tired this morning. Thus I'll get to point via a straight thuggin' daylight jack-move of Wikipedia propaganda:
"The album [Hello] is also notable for featuring one of the first major-album productions by the late Hip-Hop producer Jay Dee on the song "Fingertips". He was responsible for the drum programming on the track." Blap. Gwarn Jay, gettin' them major label Ps.
The dexterity of Jay’s early production techniques is evident in this track, with a simple chunky drum loop common in true school hip-hop of that era, though not overpowering Poe’s jazzy vocals . Despite the fact I don’t have any additional information to confirm his other producer-persuasion over the beat, there are unmistakeable Jay Dee-esque requisites; haunting use of background vocal cuts and hypnotic keys to distinguish but two factors that create a gorgeous dreamlike essence that makes you want to get lean and go cow-tipping in a cold, wet field as the final droplets of your youth ebb away through your...fingertips?
I had to dramatically draw for the cyber-shovel in order to mine this rare jewel for my Dilla dimepieces. Ladies open wide, this honey-glazed donut's for your curvaceous mouths especially, gobble down & add some tissue to the titties (misogyny unintentional*)
*BNTL doesn't answer to the fascist censorship regulations of Communist China-
so shut up.
