I was caught up in a debate today. I won't reveal the persons identity for fear of his life. For this explanation i will refer to him as AgentX.
Here's an extract from our debate...
AgentX: Hi Ollie
Myself: Hi
AgentX: Oh I see your wearing a Stussy M65 Jacket
Myself: Yes I am. Nice isn't it?
AgentX: Yeh is ight, Stussy have run out of ideas though. They aren't top 10 anymore.
Myself: Are you mad?
The rest of the conversation is too explicit so I’m going to leave it there.
His argument was that Stussy ONLY sell printed tee's. I personally appreciate a lot of their designs and will admit 80% of my collection is printed tee's. But I will defend Stussy and say they look after you from head to toe.
I agree that they sell a lot of printed tee's but thats where it all began.
Don't get me wrong the streetwear market is swamped with new brands, which are mostly making their names from printed tee's. But damn sonny, Stussy were one of the first. Their cut and sew holds some real quality and the logo is iconic now.
I delved deep into the Ollie Danger Vault of goodies to show why Stussy are untouchable and still hold it down in any real streetwear head's top ten...
What's your stance on the brand?

Dunno. Stussy is played out and rinsed to death by hipsters everywhere. Im also not keen on that logo... looks it's written in 'gRafFitI' font or something. although true they have some nice stuff.
Mate thats Shawn Stussys signature, its not like they have just come along and started putting bait graphic designed "graffiti' fonts over there shit.
That logos going on 30 years old.
Stussy still deliver, allow the haters.
yawn
Stussy is cool and different. But it shouldnt be sold in selfridges..everyone has it
lowers its status big time
nice post ollie, i was having this exact convo with someone recently.
Stussy is a staple and has been for years, you cant hate on em.
Dom just because a lot of people have it and major suppliers of current fashions choose to stock their gear doesn't make THEM any less of a company.
This whole exclusivity game has reached an unbearable level and brands like Stussy cut through the shit and deliver.
Having said that, when you do see balding cityboys wearing brands whose names they cant pronounce it does make you want to cry
ollie, that better not me my hat, didnt you get the green one, i've been looking for that for ages!!!
your getting a bitch slap when i see you next, you coming back to cov for christmas?
Stussy defines longevity though recent seasons suggest it may be coming to an end. Gone are the days of infamous hip hop lyrics and taglines, unique characters and inspiring slogans.
I agree the cut a sew stuff is still great, the shirts are always dope and practically indestructable season in season out but with the recent insurgence of the plaid and check shirt into the likes of Topman and H&M it was made the items a little less desirable.
I think the down fall has been the past few season's tees, they've very boring. Splashes of pastels, neon and the stussy signature is the best they seem to be able to do?
I'll back up the point of Stussy being available to anyone shopping in Selfridges because if you think about the history behind the brand, lead by a passion for surfing a love of hip hop and an all around desire to be creative. The Stussy tribe was a lifestyle and wearing the Stussy logo would mean you aspire and respect that lifestyle. With it being in shops such a Selfridges it enables any randomer looking for the latest colour in their Lyle & Scott polo shirt or G-star jeans to pick up a Stussy tee and think thats sick I'm gonna buy it and rock it to my local cattle market club to look like a cool guy!
I write this wearing the Las Vegas world tour tee and I still believe Stussy is one of the defining brands in the Streetwear, urban culture whatever the fuck you wanna call it world we have today.
Long live Stussy.
Shit Ollie, I should have written this post!
I mean absolutely no disrespect to stussy whatsoever when i say this, but has anyone noticed that the same font that they use (not for the signature but for text around images etc) is used on the back of packets of twiglets?
I have a lot of love for stussy. The market was flooded with their stuff and every herb and his/her dog was wearing it in the late 80's early 90's... but after more than a decades rest (over here) it's fresh again... for now.
Stussy is still strong and live-o!! i agree allow the haters!!
Haha Witts we know your Mr Stussy but your points are valid.
There are a few arguments about the text, i know a punk band called Discharge from the late 80's who claim they birthed it.
Brad the hat was never yours. You may have seen it in the store and never copped but i did so chin up cousin.
And yes i will be back for a few days at christmas.
dont get me wrong i love stussy, it just annoys me how every fucker in the street seems to be wearing their most reacent seasons tees, not realising that they are wearing a brand that actually stands for something!!!
stussy should be pulled out of selfridges!!!!!
and if anyone can get hold of shawn, then can u pass on the message that in his next season can he refer back to his earlier gear..
anon, get clued up. Shawn Stussy sold stussy in 2001.
Good post Ollie.
stussy will always be one of the leading streetwear brands, despite where it's sold or whatever clique decides to start rocking it.
end of.
their clothes are pretty much on point all the time.
also, doesn't the 's' on that knitted hat look a little like the slam city skates 's'?
Stussy is a lifestyle. Some people live that lifestyle, some people aspire to live that lifestyle, and some people just beg. Hard.
Big deal selfridges have got it, they don't have any of the good stock. So if you cop it from selfridges you're shooting yourself in the foot, because everyone will have it.
And people that say stussy's played out? You probably don't even know how to pronounce the brand.
But for me, wearing Stussy is the closest i'm gonna get to that lifestyle.
Stussy pronounced Stooosy.
Saj your on point!
Streetwear is a lifestyle, a lifestyle you cant fake!
Stoooossy can fuck off. Stussy all day every day.
Ollie you even say stussy. It's Personnal preference.
Same principle as muller yoghurts, I don't hear none of you saying wheres my mooooooooooooooooller crunch corner, son.
Shut up Witts i call it Stussy with full knowledge of how its meant to be pronounced.
I dont know what your point is? Saj was stating that people need to know the history of the brand.
Northerners? How did you come to that assumption?
No argument here just discussion.
I asked for your stance not your cry for attention!
Ollie, Saj says: And people that say stussy's played out? You probably don't even know how to pronounce the brand.
Anon, suck your mum.
their jacket game has been near unfuckwithable in the past 5 years, especially the 2 lots of Japanese Harringtons.
but their tee/sweat/hoodie game in the past decade has been patchy and their all-over print hoodies have been some of the worst offenders in that style.
