Lost Hours: Stanza

Over the past few weeks I've started feel a little disillusioned with drum n bass and have been feeling very few new tunes, and if you switch to the dubstep scene there is so much freshness and so many new dubs that it's on fire right now with massive raves and new nights being set up all over the UK and the rest of the world every month!

I covered an event in Sutton last week called the Lost Hours with Stanza headlining, a young and up and coming talent from Birmingham but is known throughout the dnb scene and won the Innovation break through talent competition in 2007.

I headed out expecting another run of the mill night, to be more of a good vibes night with he local crowd and not expecting to anything exhilarating or ground breaking, no disrespect to any of the other DJs but I had heard them play many times before and knew what to expect.

Arrived just before the doors opened and jammed for a bit waiting for the venue to fill, the selection of tunes was great for a midweek night deep rolling bass heavy drum n bass something for people to warm to and still being able to socialise, though at times it seemed like people were more intersted in smoking outside.

As the hours past sets from MT, Cemtex and Nursa, End and Blair went by all coming with deepness and some real tunes. As it was a school night I was gonna head back after snapping a few shots of Stanza, but wasn't feeling too tired and was really feeling the set from Stanza.

Mixing on three decks as standard and pulling two plates out the bag almost all the time. Stanza absolutely smashed it with unbelievable technical ability, I'd heard the guy was talented but fuck me it was good. The selection was on point aswell dropping the odd jump up teaser and keeping it deep and techy to fit in with the scheme of the night, Stanza was hurting the dance floor and for the first time in the night had everyone on their feet.

It was great to see a DJ thoroughly enjoying what they were doing and mixing with a smile on their face as it's something you don't see with many. Drawing for Dillinja - Shinning and pulling it up three times was more a lot. Then the double drop for his last tune was amazing, I don't even know what the fuck the one tune was but double dropping with Noisia - Diplodocus was absolutely disgusting and standardly got rewound not once but three times in a row!

I'd even go as far as saying Stanza was better than Andy C a few weeks back on the Valve system and that really is a big statement!

A great debut night at JD's bar for Lost Hours, I'll be looking forward to many more. Large up all the drunken Sutton crew and the over excitable smoke machine!

A highlight for the boys...
