Secret Wars Birmingham
Headed to The Rainbow for Secret Wars Saturday evening, the usual Hip Hop, Drum n Bass and Dubstep spilled from the speakers as the artist's beavered away at their canvas'
Personally I thought Agent's piece was the best but sadly he didn't win, took a few snaps then headed off to the Warehouse...

Vogue India. August 08.
The August issue of Vogue India has sparked controversy worldwide, the last few days have seen articles appear in The Independent and The New York Times to name a few.
A 16-page photoshoot illustrating the juxtaposition of extreme poverty and wealth in India by styling designer high fashion accessories not on runway models, but on the average Indian people with their every day settings as the backdrop.
An old woman missing her upper front teeth holds a child in rumpled clothes — who is wearing a Fendi bib. (approx. £50)
A man barefoot modeled a Burberry umbrella: (approx. £100)
The concept of this shoot seems obviously ironic as these people who's average salary is 65 pence per day would not be able to afford such luxuries. While the photography may be beautifully shot and aesthetically pleasing, what is Vogue India trying to say with these images?

The first of many, room 2 @ Resurrection, Subway City. I was invited down by Jordan to take some snaps with promise of Dubstep, Drum n Bass, Grime & Bassline.
After an attempt at Med Bar failed miserably, finding it over run with drunk 16 year old's thanks to a 16+ door policy for a "back to school bonanza". I've never seen so many young girls dolled up and teenage boys donning smart shirts, trousers and loafers.. Police were patrolling heavily.
Gutter Skank was a sweaty mess (in a good way) with special guests Bigger than Barry sharing the deckle.
Headed down the road to Concrete after to catch the end of the free party, the Dubstep had finished but there was plenty on offer from Alpha & TNT.
Concrete was about as busy as usual..
Jon and Ben were in attendance, but thats about it?

Naked happy girls
I first found out about naked happy girls about 2 months ago and my life has never been the same since.
Supposedly being the point at which nakedness, laughter and art intersect, naked happy girls is the brain child of of photographer Andrew Einhorn and involves him roaming the streets of New York looking for random women stupid enough to allow him into their own homes in order to photograph them naked and happy, and happily naked.
The vibe of the book is quite accurately captured in this video, in which much of the photography and filming was infact done by Andrew Einhorn himself.

TTOD presents...The Humble Sock.
Last night while maxin' at the home of our BNTL brother toocoldtohold...we got onto the subject of socks, he shared his extensive collection with us that included styles from Pringle, Ralph Lauren, Urban Outfitters and the novelty elite. Is he alone in his growing obsession or are there any other secret enthusiasts amongst us?
We have noticed that this relatively anonymous under garment has been receiving a little more attention in more recent times....but why is so much focus happening south of the ankle?
This TTOD trend theory makes perfect sense....so LISTEN UP.
All of us are becoming more aware of being 'Eco friendly' and answers to the question of 'How to reduce your carbon footprint?' are constantly thrown around in the media, this along with the congestion charge and the rising expense of public transport have all contributed to the recent rise in bicycle culture in London.
More specifically when we pull up at the traffic lights now, we're not looking at the blacked out car next to us but the blinged out fixie that is fast becoming a fashion statement. As far as subcultures go the phenomonom that is fixed wheel bikes is definitely one for the adults as well.
For those of you that ride a bike, you know that rolling up one trouser leg becomes something of a routine procedure before setting off on your journey. This has had a direct effect on the choices you are making when reaching into the sock draw.
Socks are starting to speak volumes, check out what the socks of London have to say for themselves.
Some are taking it to the extreme...
While others are just flirting with a splash of colour...
This has of course been reflected in the S/S 09 menswear shows you will see that socks are beginning to have a life of their own, see the Junya Watanabe collection...
OD has recently toyed with the idea of the black & white buffalo plaid example from THE HUNDREDS
The question is.....Is this all getting a bit out of hand?

Dave White Interview
It started Thursday evening about 2 weeks ago at the "1948" store opening, I’m chatting some rubbish with my two ladies Gynelle and Yolli, when I bump into Mr. Fatsarazzi who as usual is armed with one of the nuttiest camera’s I had ever seen in my life.
This was my second encounter with the great man and we just started having a general conversation about our day when he dropped
"my man Dave White is down here as well tonight"
as he said this I couldn’t believe it I might as well have turned into a crazed Usher Raymond fan (no homo)
My head started darting around trying to catch a glimpse of one of my favorite artist/designers ever. After spotting him Fatsarazzi leads me over and introduces the two of us and all I'll say is, the man IS A FUCKING LEGEND he started talking abut work and started showing me up and coming work on his digital camera for a new exhibition his currently working on.
Enough of my garbage talk and more of what you want . . .
When and under what circumstances did you first refer to yourself as an "Artist"?
I have always created images for as long as I can remember, obsessively making pictures of the things I really loved as a child. I made a choice at 15 that Art was what I wanted to pursue, so I suppose then.
What inspired your style of painting?
I have been painting for over 20 years and studied Fine art painting for 10, along that journey I discovered oil paint right at the beginning and just connected straight away, the mark making, the surface texture and even my paint splats all appeared as soon as I got together with the medium. It just felt natural and represented my ideas the best way. You never stop learning along the way and your work always develops through exploration, risk and chance play a big part in my work.
When did you realise that you were a highly well-respected artist?
I just do my thing.
Which piece (or project) are you most proud of ?
I am only as good as my last painting, that's how I have always worked, I am constantly thinking of the next one.
What do you think are the most positive things about being a working artist in today's cultural climate?
The world has never been more exciting, and actually seems quite a small place, I always cherish visiting other countries and getting to absorb other cultures and ways of living.
Your well known for your sneaker paintings, so what was it like for Nike to acknowledge this and to use some of your ideas for a t-shirts collection?
A massive honor, I made the 1st painting in 2002 and never would have imagined the journey that I was taken on through making the Sneaker paintings. My relationship with Nike and all of the people who work their I call friends Is really special to me. I would never have imagined the incredible journey, the people i met and the opportunities that came along from painting objects I love.
How have you handled the business side of being an artist?
I have an amazing wife, we have been together for 21 years this year, we work very well as a team.
What are the most important influences that have moved you as an artist?
Van Gogh. There is an amazing book of his letters to his brother Theo who supported him his whole life, who knew he was a free spirit, a man whose style was unique, who didn't play to convention, and just did his thing regardless and did it with so much passion. it's a really moving read. Even the most banal subjects he painted just had magic, something really special.
Do you ever go through long periods when you don't make art?
Never, I am in the studio at 7:30 am everyday.
Who is your favourite artist working in a different genre than you?
Too many to mention, but one of the standouts has to be Fatsarazzi, he is like the Spike Jonze of photography, his style is so unique, and just captures his subjects, be it an event, party, portrait with so much flair and style, like when is someone going to make that massive Coffee table retrospective book of his work?
What advice would you give to a young artist?
Believe, do your own thing, explore everything and you will find what suits you and your style. Don't follow trends or styles to fit in, However be patient it's a long road with ups and downs, but if you love what you do with all your heart nothing else matters. And always go on gut instinct, if you smell a rat, walk away.
Where do you think the majority of your work will end up thirty years from now?
Who knows, I am honored when people buy a piece. Only time will tell.
Are there any plans work wise you have coming up, which you could share with the readers?
I have been exhibiting abroad, but have 2 UK solo shows coming up, the 1st is in September with my latest Super Hero paintings, and the 2nd is in London in October at The Old Truman Brewery where I will be exhibiting and debuting my latest subject matter,. I am also very honored to be releasing my 1st published print coming out of the same studio that makes Damien Hirst prints. I hand finished the edition last week and they will be available through www.opus-art.com at the launch of my show.

Most recently the good ship Secret Wars docked in Barcelona, where cast & crew were collab-ing with Reebok, adorning the sportswear giant's display stalls @ insider trade fair Bread & Butter. We at BNTL are jammy enough to have exclusive footage from the event beamed to your screens direct from the edit room floors of Monorex towers. The video showcases the uncouth talents of Monorex artists, Jimi Crayon, Teck1, Miss LED, Mr K, Elfin, Alfa, Conzo and Code 26, with Reeps 1 and Session on the audio vibrations...
None of the artists were harmed in the making of this movie
The video also showcases Reebok's staple output of treads, with heavy onus on the crisp white ladies Freestyle Hi. The shoe was 25 yrs old in '07 and this year saw a spectrum of collabs like the Colette x MOB pass through the feeds of hypebeast, highsnobiety, kicksonfire and the like. For the ladies that haven't copped yet the Milkfed pastel all-overs are in at Gloria's @ ye olde Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, Banglatown
