FORMAT // 6th October // Mint Lounge

The Format gang don't stop with their consistantly solid line-ups.

This time round the spectrum reaches from dark and minimal subbed out 140 bpm bass from the sounds of Kryptic Minds towards a more grimey house vibe focussed nearer to the 130 bpm mark with Girl Unit.

Somewhere in the middle of it all sits Swamp 81's finest; Addison Groove who along with Girl Unit are appearing at Format for the first time with what will no doubt be another sold out event.

Out to Ashes on the artwork for this one.

Stone Island - Liquid Reflective Jacket

Stone Island drop there new Liquid Reflective jacket. Once again moving up a couple levels on everybody else in the outer wear market.

The language of safety work garments inspired the Reflective Jacket, introduced for the first time by Stone Island in ’991.

The Liquid Reflective is a new step of this concept: a work of craftsmanship that underlines the uniqueness of each garment.
A high visibility jacket reflecting even the faintest light. This extremely reflective fabric has been coated with thousands of micro glass balls. It has been hand sprayed onto the finished garments and then oven dried. The handmade aspect of the process creates an uneven liquid effect on the surface.

Monocle Weekly

Man of the moment designer Verbal of Ambush design was on my favorite radio/podcast show "Monocle Weekly" this past Sunday talking about Dalston, previewing a few tracks and just having a good old chin wag with the monocle fellas.

On top of that it was a pretty good show as usual, there was a in depth review on this years London Design Festival which I unfortunately missed, a look at the change of power in Swedens government and a whole bunch of other interesting stuff.
(i'm not going to lie the show wont be to everybodies taste)

verbal-interview-freshness-1
-"On this week's edition of the Monocle weekly editor-in-chief Tyler Brûlé discusses the surprising outcome of Sweden's general elections with PJ Anders Linder, political editor-in-chief of the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, before crossing over to Toronto to talk to Hugo Miller, technology correspondent for Bloomberg, about this week's expected launch of the BlackBerry tablet device. Standing in for Rob Bound in the culture section is Japanese DJ and rapper Verbal, who plays some tracks from his latest record, and Monocle's design editor Hugo Macdonald is in the studio to share his musings on this week's London Design Festiva"

Reached this for some silly reason, it was mad corny but easily one of the biggest turn outs of youth i've seen in my many years of visiting nyc.
I got to respect the man that is 40'oz hustle easily close to a 1,000+ turn out for facebook event/ party held illegally underneath a bridge. But i can't lie it was corny - o i said that already innit ?

The Rig Out 3 - Oi Polloi

The latest issue of The Rig Out from good friend Glenn Kitson and Oi Polloi has just dropped. Always full with good content...

This issue sees The Rig-Out documenting the Norwegian wilderness, with record-breaking cyclist, James Bowthorpe strutting (or should we say cycling) his stuff in some of the smartest garments money can buy.

Elsewhere in the issue there's a heavy Italian influence, with the the Paninari' of Milano '84 setting the precedent style-wise and Oi Polloi filling in the blanks, bringing things up to date in their own unique way.

The format's been improved - more pages, better binding, nicer paper stock. The 'interweb' may well be embedded into our daily routines - but isn't it nice to have The Rig-Out stick an inky finger in your virtual day-to-day?

As aforementioned, issues one and two of The Rig Out talked the talk, but in this third issue they walk the walk. Apart from James, he rides his bike...
