Let's get high!

High aperture I mean, Leica introduce the F'0.95 50mm Lens. Will you ever need to use the flash again?

This is the worlds fastest aspherical lens, giving you an extremely shallow depth of field and incredible low light capability. Coming in at a reasonable £6290, shallow depth of field right? but you need deep pockets to afford one!

Noctilux-M-50mm-f0.95-ASPH_001

Due for release in February next year, check out the full info on DPreview

DJ Maseo (De La Soul) at Fidgit

Press Release...

In the last few years FIDGIT has welcomed everyone such as Mark Ronson, Cash Money, DJ Yoda and KRS1 through their front doors. Other guests notable guests include Tony Touch, Crazy Legs (Rocksteady Crew), A Skillz, Mr Thing, Norman Jay and Jazzie B (Soul II Soul), keeping Brixton on the map and giving South Londoners a decent night out pretty much every Friday. To celebrate Plan B's 6th birthday, we are throwing a weekend long party (slightly delayed due to extensive and ridiculously over long work on the local transport systems), with FIDGIT presenting De La Soul extraordinaire and the most cuddly man in Hip Hop DJ Maseo, throwing it down on the Friday.

Fresh off of the Rock The Bells 2008 tour alongside the likes of Nas, Mos Def, The Pharcyde and EPMD, Maseo leaves the rest of De La Soul at the hotel and brings his legendary record collection to Plan B. The brains behind the distinctive De La sound (well him and Prince Paul)… it has been a few years since the Daisy Age, but Maseo has still got the skills to pay the bills! Support on the night comes from the likes of D Boogie, J Bold, The Dixon Bros and Kid Who.

Hang tight Joshua, back for a 2 night London residency.

Out of the Light and into the Dark...

I left multi-cultural London for narrow minded Nuneation yesterday for a few days at the parentals. Back in 2003 I spent about 3 years living in Nuneaton, I can't say much about my experiance here because i never really socialised. But what I can say is it was obvious I wasn't welcome by the majority.

So as i arrive to my parents house yesterday with that excited feeling in my belly and step over the threshold. I wasn't greeted with the amazing smell of home cooked food but instead was greeted with this....

BNP 001

BNP 002

I read the paper from front to back and the best story was this one. The headline read 'Make a Stand Against this Cruel Practice'...The story was about how a man was disgusted when he went to his local supermarket to buy a frozen chicken and found it had a 'Halal Assured' label on it. It wasn't that the chicken had gone up in price or that is was out of date, it still tasted the same as the last time he enjoyed the succulant farmfoods chicken or even wasn't the fact it was a battery reared chicken. It was because it had a label which enabled it to be enjoyed by Muslims as well as anyone else choosing this product.

I'm all for opinions and free speech but this BNP party are bringing nothing but contradictions. I agree the immigration in this country is confusing to say the least but at the same time we need to look at the bigger picture, not choose to ignore certain facts and believe the ones that suit our policies.

Feel free to try and convince me to vote BNP.

Ancient Memories

For this post I wish to continue along the same wistful vein as I have for the last few days. As is perhaps customary around the latter part of the year one tends to reflect on some of the old times.

So in this manner I have decided to do this by selecting some of my favourite UK Hip-Hop records. Yes, that genre that sadly passed away a couple of years ago. I am talking about the era of exceptional UK lyricists from every corner of the British Isles who released many outstanding albums and mixtapes. The era of Itch FM, The Hemp Trading Company, Undercover Magazine, Deal Real Open Mic on Friday evenings and everything else that characterised the best moments of the scene.

Often the discussion of who was the best lyricist of this golden era is one of many disputes. So I have tried to come up with a selection of those who I deemed to be some of the leaders. I have increased the amount to six instead of five as I felt it was necessary to include one more. However there are heaps I haven’t been able to include. But still require a mention. For example; Lewis Parker, TaskForce, Phi Life Cypher, Braintax and Yungun to name but a few.

On with the top six in no particular order. I shan't comment on the videos as I believe the songs say enough on their own. First choice is a persey! In fact they all are.

1) Jehst - Run Hard

2) Foreign Beggars feat Skinnyman - Hold On

3) Ty feat Roots Manuva - Oh You Want More? (Refix)

4) Klashnekoff - Parrowdice

5) Fallacy feat Tubby T – Big ‘N’ Bashy

6) Black Twang – So Rotten
