SRC - The Tangerine EP (TR004)
Perhaps known mainly for his characteristic 8-Bit sound, Birmingham's SRC has become a staple name in recent years on radio sets of a whole host of DJs across various stations such as Rinse FM and Sub FM.
After what seems like a brief hiatus in his presence on radio it is great to see that he has a forthcoming 4 track EP set for release at the end of this month on DJ Cable's imprint, Triangulum Recordings.
In true SRC style there is clear evidence that the game boyesque samples are still very much a part of his production template along with playful experimentation in other musical fields, most notably the oriental theme that underpins the track entitled 'June.'
All in all this is a pretty solid release that shows yet another conscious effort to extend the boundaries of what might be considered as instrumental grime music in 2012.

Stone Island 30 Exhibition
This is a big deal. Stone Island celebrates 30 years of existence this year and with it they've decided to invite the public and show off their extensive archive. On display will be the results of Stone Islands experimentation and innovation that has made them the leading outerwear brand on the planet. I can only imagine the gems that they'll have on display.
The exhibition is located in Florence and the opening will coincide with the tradeshow Pitti. If you're interested in reaching then the show will be open to the public from the 20th June...

Article 31.1 - Community Kite Project
The picture above says it all - a kid, happily flying a kite. But, it's where he's flying the kite that's pertinent.
He is running through Bishopsgate, in the heart of the City of London. As an adult you would have a hard time taking photos in certain areas within this district. Home to serious industries like banking, there's not much time for playing, unless you count gambling, and then they seem more like full time players.
Just imagine, 3 kids flying kite through the City. The security guard might let off a grin (a rarity). Now, imaging 3 grown men running through the city... Cue, sweaty thumbs on radios and frantic call to the City of London Police (the ones with the flamboyant hats). If you dare go near Liverpool Street Station you might just get shot by one of those small fuckers who over compensate with big guns!
The point is, you can do things as a child that you could only dream of as an adult. You can play and people will encourage you, they'll even smile while you do it. If you should ever chase those dreams as an adult, you will be frowned upon, called loony, locked up or killed.
If you play, you may loose your liberty. Ironic as "kite flying across the globe is synonymous with freedom, the outdoors, imagination and possibilities." - have you ever seen/read kite runner?
Community Kite Project, make kites for everyone. A mission which has seen them hold a residency at SpaceFiftyFour on Rivington Street and travel a little further to Costa Rica (see video below).
On Friday 22nd June, Community Kite Project will be exhibiting their work as part of Article 31.1 x Workshop 44. They believe "fun and imagination are precious commodities", and we agree.

Hip-Hop On Trial
Hip Hop goes on trial over at the Barbican on the 26th of June at 7pm. This could be either really, really good, or equally terrible. Hip Hop has provided one of the great focal points for socio-political discourse for post-modern society, the rhetoric surrounding the "culture" has been beaten and berated for some time. Hopefully this is good and adds weight to the conversation. We all know the Channel 4 and Beeb docs over the years have watered this dialogue down no end but in equal measure the likes of Nelson George have added much clarity and weight to the discussion. The Blastmaster KRS will be in attendance and with the likes of ?uestLove, Hattie Collins, Estelle, Q-Tip and P.J.O'rourke adding their ten pence online this is worth your time at least.

Article 31.1 - Matthew Benson
Signs like the above are ubiquitous in the city... "NO BALL GAMES", "DO NOT CLIMB ON SCAFFOLD".
Not one to be told what he can and can't do Matthew Benson has been ignoring these signs for a while now. You may have seen his pics on BNTL - the crazy shit atop tower blocks or in tunnels.
Signs that say "DO NOT ENTER" just don't run. Imagine if you was a child, and someone said "DO NOT TOUCH". I know what I would do. Presumably it is this same rebellious, playful itch that keep Matthew Benson doing what he does.
Matthew is a player, and the city is his playground.
This coming Friday presents the first chance to see Matthew Benson's work exhibited as part of Article 31.1 x Workshop 44. Photographic work documenting tracks, trains, blocks and roof tops, all within London, will be on show.

Tallman Stretch - Dub House
If there was an award for sub-genres of music, then surely, that award would go to House? So, it was no surprise that I got into a conversation with House DJ Tallman Stretch, with the end result being him describing the music he plays as Dub House. Dub House? Now, I haven't come across that before. Still, there is a possibility that Dub House is a well established genre in a land far away. I suppose the best description is not through words but via the music its self. Here's a recent Tallman Stretch set... Dub House?
