Vans 2009

Seem's like Vans are taking 2009 seriously with some sick collabs and shoes due for release already. After a relatively dry end to 2008 we've got all this to look forward to:

"Gabe Morford pack"

morford-vans half cab-syndicate-00

Black at its finest and such a beautiful half cab. Using a combination of kevlar, benecke ceraprene and dri-lex lining giving unbelievable durability and quality. The added bonus of the Vans tool bag and lock in the box is a nice touch aswell. Also in the pack is an Era and Slip-on.

"Usogrow Pack"

usugrow-vans-sk8-hi-half-cab

Japanese artist Usogrow works with Vans once again, his style of dark illustrations positioned subtly on the side panel and tongue adds the final touch to the premium leather Half Cab, the logo somewhat reminds me of Bounty Hunter though? The rest of the pack contains a SK8-hi, Sk8-lo and a tee.

"Sk8-hi Vert, Hosio Pack"

vans-sk8-vert-hosoi-s02

The third instalment from from the skate legend Christian Hosoi, things are a little more serious this time with a premium leather upper and perforated paneling, definitely my favourite Hosio shoe of the three. Available in red and black.

All this is either in store now or coming soon!

These days I'm more of a Vans man now...The simplicity suits me fine.

oh no I ride track and commute on a fixed wheel bike..shoot me because it became 'fashionable'

IT didnt become fashionable.
YOU became fashionable when you jumped on the bandwagon.

Dont front like you were ridin them before they were fashionable. Thats ludicris. You were riding fixed two years ago?

Im doubtful....

that first part is bull mate, I didn't become fashionable because of the kind of bike I ride, if you consider me fashionable at all.

2. Im not fronting, 2 years ago the East London Line was still operating and I was doing my GCSE's. I got into it through riding track, not after seeing Pharrell or Kanye pose with their 'fixies man' or seeing Chris Hoy win triple gold.

I ride fixed on road cos it was convenient for me and I will continue to do so when the bandwagon leaves. When you spot me walking in West/Hoxton/Dalston (delete as appropriate) with a colourful £1000 ride with a supreme tee and imported Tier-o's on, then step to me and tell me im doing it to look cool. but until then I suggest you get off your high horse and stop hating

Again your showing your lack of understanding.

You dont see too many fixed riders rockin supreme or tier 0's. More likely to see an oriental American 16 year old rockin those kinda things.

Fixed gear riders immitate the courier style but withotu preforming it as a job and tend to drink gourmet tee instead of beer.

Im guessing you wear relatively similar clothes to most fixed gear riders, so i can still step to you and say "look mate, were all adults here and understand we are influenced by whats cool or in around us"

You have followed a fashion, why isit so hard to admit that. You cant always be the originator in every culture u immerse yourself in, sometimes there are leaders and sometimes there are followers.

I just so happens in regards to the fixed culture you are definitive follower. You still enjoy yourself so feel free to continue riding but FACT IS you DID jump on a bandwagon, for right or wrong, and you do IMITATE others culture/style. Not everyone can be individual, there only soo many styles and subcultures out there...

And in regard to you riding fixed in 5, 10, 15 years. Im very doubtful. Yes its function.... For couriers. Its a sport of the moment dude, the popularity of activities like fixed fluctuate like the pound has been in the last couple months. Youll find something else of simply the appeal will fade.

Otherwise in 5 years when your riding a fixed and everyone is doing something else, you will be one hell of an alienated and ostracized being.

Its just how the world works my man. People have to follow suit...

are you havin a laugh? is he having a laugh?
the nike/supreme reference was to all the assholes that walk their bikes around and pose outside clubs with them.(it happens)

Most of the people I know ride fixed because they rode track and transferred to road cos it fulfilled their needs, the guys I rode to school with were riding 2 maybe 3 years ago.

Couriers started riding them because they thought "hmmm it will be a lot easier and cheaper to maintain these bikes, seeing as though their designed for racing one can deduce that you can go fast on one blah blah blah"

they fulfil couriers needs-to get around town quickly. If I need to do the same thing but don't drop packages off does it mean I shouldn't ride? or that I ride for a different reason? The reason people imitate the 'courier style' is because its been tried and tested.

Yes it is cool now and if someone thinks Im cool because of the kind of bike I ride then great, but it's not the reason I got into it. Yes we are influenced by things around us but who are you to tell me what I have been influenced by?

Your mostly right in what you say about the general demographics of todays fixed gear riders.
I will admit hands down that some of the things I wear are influenced 100% by trends
but considering all you know about me is 1.I go on bntl 2.I ride a fixed gear bike its a bit rich to write a short story on why I chose to buy the bike I did. When I got my bike people asked "where are the gears?" and "wheres the other brake" not "whaahhh cowabunga is that a fixie bike thing?" like they do now ;-)

but no ones being thuggish or threatening so thats irrelevant beefcake....

Just pointing out its a shame 95% of certain subcultures cant admit they are part of it due to seeing others getting attention due to it.

Look my man, if riding a fixed bike is more likely to get you pussy. It MAKES SENSE to ride it. Regardless of whether you look like a tool, you may get more pussy than before.

Just admit. Most of fixed riders ride cus its cool not becuase its functional. But they enjoy it and keep bike shops afloat with the ridiculous prices they are willing to pay for wheels.

that wasnt for you, Im quite enjoying our discussion, it was for cabbageman and the other/same anons that were being rude on here today and yesterday.

yer your kinda right but I wouldnt say theres that many, there are definitely some-especially the ones who walk their bikes, that is ESSENTIAL and yes the ones who buy accessories like aerospoke wheels in rad colours.

but go on http://www.londonfgss.com and you will realise that most of the people on there are sound and not just riding for lolfactor.

also bikes are not pussymagnets i can assure you. There are about 10/15 girls who ride fixed and about 10/15 other girls who know what fixed is.
